Executing a Multi-Phase Press Rigging and Installati­on Project

Phase 1: Unloading & Staging – (2) 550-Ton AIDA Presses

MEI managed the receipt and unloading of six truckloads containing major press components. Utilizing a 4-post hydraulic gantry system, the team safely offloaded, uncrated, and staged each component for future assembly.

Components Included:

• (2) Crowns – 132,000 lbs each
  Dimensions: 25’ L x 11’4” W x 12’ H
• (2) Slides – 70,000 lbs each
• (2) Beds – 65,000 lbs each
  Dimensions: 20’ L x 11’5” W x 9’ H

All components were strategically staged on-site to support efficient re-mobilization once the customer’s facility expansion is complete.

Phase 2: 330-Ton Komatsu Press Relocation & Installation

In parallel, MEI executed the full relocation and installation of a 330-ton Komatsu press (101,000 lbs) within the customer’s active production environment.

Execution Highlights:

• Offloaded using MEI’s 4-post gantry system
• Uncrated and de-skidded for transport readiness
• Skated the press into the operational area with precision
• Upended (stood upright) inside the facility using a 2-post gantry system and Versa-Lift
• Final alignment and placement in its designated production location

Key Challenges

• Extreme Weights & Dimensions: Handling components exceeding 130,000 lbs required engineered lift plans and specialized gantry configurations.
• Live Facility Conditions: Installation work was performed without disrupting ongoing operations.
• Phased Execution: Coordinating staging for future assembly while completing an immediate installation demanded detailed logistical planning.
• Indoor Up-Ending: Safely standing a 101,000 lb press within a confined interior space required expert rigging and precise control.
